About

The club

Sheffield University Canoe Club is an active sports club with over 50 members. Meeting several times a week, we provide a ton of opportunities to get involved whether you're an absolute beginner or a seasoned pro!

We welcome all forms of kayakers, with a huge amount of love in the club for white water, polo and slalom. We have a commitment to providing fun sessions for all!

Whether you have been kayaking since you could walk or have no idea what a kayak even looks like, we believe that everyone can get involved and we are all there to help support each other.

Weekly activities

Every week of the academic year, we have a range of sessions to come along to. These include social sessions, pool sessions, lake sessions and fitness sessions.

Weekly training

We have pool sessions every Thursday night at the Goodwin centre from 8. This gives you a chance to work on your skills whatever your ability, without having to worry about getting cold if you capsize. We also have polo sessions every Sunday in Goodwin from 4-5, these sessions alternate weekly based on ability, so check the Facebook group before turning up!

Extra sessions will be posted in the Facebook group, so make sure you join!!

For each pool session please bring £3 to help cover the cost of hiring the pool. (Your first session is always free!)

White water

There are plenty of opportunities throughout the year to take part in white water trips (check out our calendar). We run 3 trips at the start of the year, all beginner friendly as well as more advanced inters trips for those looking to develop their skills. Check out our homepage for some awesome videos!

Polo

Possibly the best game ever invented, however not many people have heard of it. We have amazing polo captains that will teach you something new whatever your level. There is normally fortnightly training for this split between advanced and beginner sessions along with plenty of competitions. Check the Facebook group for more information!

Socials

We aim to have a club social every two weeks, these are a great way to get to know the club in a non-kayaking setting and have fun. Our socials range from three-legged pub crawls to sober board games so there is always something for everyone.

Just in case that wasn't enough socialising for you we also have just a casual pub trip every Tuesday evening and Thursday after the pool session. Grindstone is our local!

Other

Slalom

We go to BUCS slalom every year and have a great time, even if you have never been on white water before.

End of Year

At the end of the year, we always go abroad (Slovenia/Alps) and kayak under the sun!

See our Facebook Group for more information.

Trips

We run lots of trips all over the UK.

We have beginner trips at the start of the academic year, including visits to the Lake District and a long weekend surfing in Wales.

As you progress, we have more advanced trips that are run under the guidance of our experienced leaders. There are opportunities to paddle down white water rapids, surf ocean waves, beat Sheffield Hallam at Canoe Polo and even go abroad.
